Coursera Debuts AI Learning Agent Inside Microsoft 365 Copilot
Coursera has launched the first learning agent built for Microsoft 365 Copilot, leveraging the OpenAI Apps SDK to bring on-demand training directly into chat. The integration allows users to access Coursera's course content—videos, tutorials, and assignments—without leaving their workflow.
Background
Microsoft's latest Work Trend Index ranks AI-specific skilling as the top workforce priority for leaders. With agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot supporting open standards like Apps SDK and MCP Apps, apps such as Coursera can surface within chat. This enables employees to develop critical skills on new technologies like AI while performing daily tasks.

For instance, an employee building a complex Excel model can ask Copilot for guidance, and the agent will serve up relevant Coursera content from leading universities and industry partners. This embeds learning directly into the job context.
What This Means
Optimizing AI productivity gains requires deploying both tools and training in tandem. Embedding trusted learning into Microsoft 365 Copilot makes skill development a core part of AI adoption. In the AI era, learning and work are becoming inseparable; organizations that strengthen human capability alongside technology will unlock greater impact.
“We are pleased to bring Coursera’s interactive learning experience into Microsoft 365 Copilot for users worldwide,” said Bryan Goode, CVP of Business Applications and Agents at Microsoft. “Learning works best when it is part of how work gets done. By enabling Coursera to appear in a rich, interactive format directly in chat, people can learn in context without switching tools or breaking their flow. This makes learning a natural part of everyday work.”

How to Access the Agent
To use the Coursera learning agent, organizations must have enterprise licenses for both Coursera and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Users start a chat by typing “@Coursera” in the main chat window.
They can then ask learning-related questions like:
- “Coursera, help me learn how to implement an agentic workflow to automate our customer support routing.”
- “Coursera, show me how to orchestrate a multi-agent system so I can build a security audit workflow.”
- “Coursera, I’m preparing for a high-stakes vendor renewal. Give me a quick tutorial on principled negotiation tactics.”
The agent surfaces relevant videos from Coursera courses directly within the Copilot interface. Alternatively, users can start a chat from the side navigation panel.
Coursera is among the first agents enabled by the Apps SDK in Microsoft 365 Copilot, marking a step toward seamlessly integrating learning into everyday tools. For context on why this matters, see the Background section.
