Breaking: Microsoft and GitHub to Showcase AI-Powered Python Tools at PyCon US 2026
Long Beach, CA — Microsoft and GitHub are set to make a major splash at PyCon US 2026, taking place May 14–17. The companies will demonstrate a suite of AI-driven tools and services, including a groundbreaking integration between Pylance and Meta's new Pyrefly type checker.

Attendees are urged to visit the Microsoft and GitHub booth for hands-on labs, live demos, and exclusive previews. The integration with Pyrefly is currently available in the Insiders build and is expected to roll out to all users later this year.
Booth Highlights
"We're thrilled to bring the latest AI innovations to the Python community," said Pamela Fox, Principal Program Manager at Microsoft. "Our hands-on labs will let developers experience GitHub Copilot, Azure DocumentDB, and more in just 10 minutes."
The booth will feature interactive 10-minute labs covering:
- GitHub Copilot
- Azure DocumentDB
- Microsoft Foundry
- Microsoft Agent Framework
- Azure PostgreSQL
- Azure AI Search
Talks and Sessions
Microsoft experts will deliver several talks, including a workshop on building your first MCP server in Python and a sponsor session titled "Dungeons and Databases" featuring DocumentDB and PostgreSQL. Gwyneth Peña-Siguenza will present on teaching Python AI with small language models.
Sarah Kaiser, a Senior Cloud Advocate at Microsoft, will lead a Maintainer Summit session on Dev Containers and a keynote on marine data collection. "Dev Containers are a game-changer for Python maintainers," Kaiser noted.
Background
PyCon US is the largest annual gathering for the Python programming community, drawing thousands of developers, educators, and industry leaders. Microsoft has been a long-time sponsor, steadily increasing its investment in Python tooling and AI integration.
In recent years, Microsoft has open-sourced Pylance, acquired GitHub, and launched Azure AI services tailored for Python. The Pyrefly integration marks a step toward unifying type checking across ecosystems.
What This Means
The focus on AI-powered tools at PyCon US 2026 signals a shift toward more intelligent, automated development workflows. Developers can expect tighter integration between editors, type checkers, and cloud services, reducing boilerplate and accelerating code generation.
"This is just the beginning," added Fox. "We're building an AI-first Python experience that will transform how developers write, debug, and deploy code." The event underscores Microsoft's commitment to Python as a first-class citizen in its AI platform.
